The bed rest study commissioned by NASA investigates how long space missions affect astronauts and what countermeasures are possible. The Sensorimotor Countermeasures Study (SMC) lasts 88 days, 60 of which the participants spend in bed in a six-degree head-down position. The study is being conducted at :envihab, the research facility of the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Cologne.
