Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana
Image of Kourou (French Guiana) acquired by the Earth observation satellite Sentinel-2A on 6 March 2017. Approximately 15 kilometres north-west of the capital, the premises of Europe's Spaceport can be seen in the upper left of the image. The Sentinel-2B satellite was launched during the night of 6-7 March 2017. Together with its ‘twin satellite’ Sentinel-2A, the new environmental monitoring system will double the recording frequency: every point on Earth will be recorded every five days, thus changes in the surface will be continuously documented in the long term.
