Compliance as a value
For us, compliance means adherence to statutory and internal regulations and the basic ethical principles laid down in our corporate values. These encompass human rights, labour standards, health protection, environmental protection and anticorruption. We also have common values across the organisation such as respect, fairness, appreciation, tolerance, team spirit, honesty, transparency and acceptance. These can be found in our guidelines. The code of conduct, the guidelines and various division-specific norms ensure that these values are integrated into our daily work and routine business practice.
Since 2013, we have a Compliance Officer as part of the introduction of an integrated compliance management system. The Compliance Officer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and developing the compliance programme and, through measures such as anticorruption regulations, helps to reduce the risk of serious legal breaches.
Compliance with all statutory and internal regulations is monitored by the Compliance Officer and supported by auditing and training measures at all of our sites. Each employee is called upon to report any compliance breaches to their supervisor or the Compliance Officer.
The Compliance Officer is also responsible for providing regular training on the topics of corruption and compliance. These serve to introduce employees and managers to the consequences of non-compliance and demonstrate how to prevent it.
We have a compliance committee, which is tasked with managing all activities related to compliance. It is made up of members from various organisational units who are involved in investigating compliance violations and initiating countermeasures. A ‘compliance task force’ has also been set up, acting as a central steering committee for the assessment of reports of serious compliance breaches or suspected cases.
