German astronaut Hans Schlegel on board the ISS
The STS-122 crew, which brought the European Columbus laboratory to the ISS, included the German ESA astronaut Hans Schlegel. Schlegel was originally scheduled to take part in the extra-vehicular activity during which the laboratory was attached to the ISS. Due to the fact that he had health issues during his first hours in space, NASA decided that his colleague Stanley Love would take over the assignment.
