The spectral evidence for water ice on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
This graph shows variations in the normalised reflectance of a bright spot in the Imhotep region, plotted against wavelength. The measurements show the spectral curve at near infrared wavelengths in the band from one to four micrometres. The red curve shows the individual measurements with error bars; the blue curve shows the modelled reflectivity, which is almost identical to the results of the measurements on the comet. The notches at 1.5 microns, 2.0 microns and at 3.0 microns are diagnostic of water ice.
