The main piece of the ‘Blaubeuren’ meteorite, which weighs over 30 kilograms and is strongly weathered, was cut following agreement with the finder, to enable closer examination of the chondritic structure of the meteorite and its inclusions. For this purpose, ‘Blaubeuren’ was brought to the workshop of stonemason and sculptor Peter Fraefel at Mindelheim, in the Allgäu district. There, after intensive planning and discussions, a 576-gram corner of the meteorite was sawn off on 30 May 2020.
