After the aircraft handed over to DLR had been in service for many years as a passenger aircraft, it underwent a thorough refurbishment for its new mission and was given particularly striking paintwork by General Atomics AeroTec Systems, in accordance with DLR's specifications. The aim was for it to be instantly recognisable.
