Goclenius crater on the Moon
Large parts of the moon are pockmarked with craters, as the crater Goclenius, photographed by Apollo 8 (in the foreground) shows. This crater was named after the German physicist and mathematician Rudolf Gockel (1572-1621). The crater has a diameter of 72 kilometres.
