A bird's eye view of Ares Vallis
This image was captured by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) aboard ESA's Mars Express spacecraft in October 2004, from an altitude of 350 kilometres and with a resolution of 15 metres per pixel. It depicts the Ares Vallis outflow channel, which was created by vast quantities of water during Mars's early history.
