The southern (left) part of the image reveals two characteristic surface features of the Arsia Mons aureole: hummocky terrain and solidified flow structures (lobate terrain). Both are remnants of the former glaciers at the foot of the volcano. The elongated Aganippe Fossa graben structure runs through the centre of the picture. The northern half of the picture (right) is much flatter than the southern half. This area is covered by several lava flows, whose solidified tongue-shaped fronts can be identified on closer inspection.
