Some of the formations described in the text accompanying this image publication are marked in this vertical plan view of Mars' Olympia Planum region, located at about 80 degrees north latitude: a dark dune field about 150 kilometres long, partly covered with reddish dust ('large dune field'); remarkably smooth ice plains ('smooth surface'); layered deposits ('layered deposits') and steep cliffs about one kilometre high with upstream dunes partly covered with hoar frost ('steep cliffs and frosted dune fields'). The image resolution is 21 metres per pixel.
