Farewell to Earth – image from the Asteroid Framing Camera (AFC) on board the Hera spacecraft
This farewell image, showing Earth (bottom left) and the Moon (centre), was taken on 11 October 2024 by the Asteroid Framing Camera (AFC) on board the Hera spacecraft, from a distance of approximately 1.6 million kilometres. Earth is oriented to the north, with the Pacific Ocean illuminated by sunlight. The AFC is used both for navigation and scientific research.
