Preparing for Biomass – aircraft radar image of mangrove forests in Gabon
This radar image shows mangrove forests near Nkok in Gabon, captured by DLR's airborne radar system in 2016. ESA's Biomass mission will enable the first precise determination of forest biomass. Airborne radar images like this one were crucial for the mission's development. The measurement flights were carried out using DLR's Dornier DO 228-212 research aircraft, operated by the Flight Experiments facility in Oberpfaffenhofen. The campaigns were led by DLR in collaboration with ESA.
