The Lightweight Rover Unit (LRU) is a prototype mobile robot designed to explore unknown, rugged and hard-to-reach terrain. Research like this into semi-autonomous operations is helping to prepare for future planetary exploration missions and terrestrial disaster relief operations. LRU combines a variety of state-of-the-art technologies developed at the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
