Canopy cover loss in the Harz mountains 2017–2024
The map shows the decline in canopy cover in Germany's Harz mountainous upland region from September 2017 to September 2024, with a spatial resolution of ten metres. The colour scale visualises the timing of canopy cover loss in monthly intervals, from black (September 2017) to yellow (September 2024). Intact wooded areas are shown in green. During this period, the forest was primarily damaged by storms (2018) and by heat and drought followed by pest infestation (2019–2022).
