Digitalisation Minister Karsten Wildberger visits DLR QCI

On 4 May 2026, Karsten Wildberger, Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, visited the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative (DLR QCI). At the Hamburg Innovation Center, Wildberger discussed with DLR QCI Director Robert Axmann what makes a strong ecosystem for sovereign and competitive quantum computing: for example, strong start-ups that can develop their technology using state-of-the-art infrastructure and make the leap to scale-up with the state as their first customer.

In the laser laboratory of QSea II – a quantum computer project with the companies Eleqtron, ParityQC and NXP for DLR QCI – Minister Wildberger was able to experience first-hand how this works in practice: DLR QCI brings together start-ups and industry, awards competitive contracts and develops quantum computer hardware and applications in a single location. This is how breakthrough technologies are created that make the leap from the laboratory into practical applications in industry, research and the public sector.
