On 15 October 2020, the European-Japanese Mercury mission BepiColombo will fly past Venus at a distance of 10,720 kilometres in order to steer the trajectory of the spacecraft towards Mercury’s orbit. A second Venus flyby will take place on 11 August 2021, before six Mercury flybys bring the mission ever closer to Mercury's orbit around the Sun. Finally, BepiColombo will be steered into orbit around Mercury on 5 December 2025.
