The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA)
SOFIA is a joint project by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The concentration of atomic oxygen in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere could be directly measured for the first time during a SOFIA flight in January 2015, along the west coast of the USA.
