On 15 June 2023, the DLR Senate appointed Professor Meike Jipp as the new Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport. The psychology graduate is a professor of Transport Demand and Impacts at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and Director of the Berlin Institute of Transport Research at DLR.

"I am delighted that Professor Meike Jipp has been confirmed by the DLR Senate as the new Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport. As an Institute Director, she has demonstrated how science and management can be successfully combined. With her commitment to knowledge transfer and in committees such as the 'Climate Protection in Mobility' expert advisory board, Meike Jipp's expertise as an Institute Director has contributed greatly to shaping how DLR is perceived by the public. I wish her every success in her new position, in which she will assume overall responsibility for DLR's energy and transport research areas," says Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla, Chair of the DLR Executive Board.

Christian Sattler, the previous Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport, will concentrate on his work as Director of the newly established DLR Institute of Future Fuels, in accordance with his wishes. "I would like to expressly thank Christian Sattler for the dedication and goal-oriented leadership he has demonstrated, and for the extraordinary time commitment he has given as a result of his dual roles. Over the past two years, he has played a crucial role in shaping energy and transport research at DLR," Kaysser-Pyzalla continues.

"For me, the new position is both a challenge and a commitment," says Meike Jipp. "I will devote myself in particular to the climate compatibility of urban and rural mobility and the sustainability of new energy sources and new technologies in the field of energy generation and storage. In addition to the interdisciplinary research, I will also focus on cooperation with our partners in industry, business and research, as well as knowledge transfer to government actors and NGOs."

Professor Jipp's own research focuses on human behaviour regarding ground-based transport. She also analyses the acceptance and usage of different transport services. Professor Jipp studied at the University of Mannheim and Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. In 2010, Jipp joined DLR, initially at the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance. In 2014, she moved to the DLR Institute of Transportation Systems. In 2017, she became a professor at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Technical University of Braunschweig. At the beginning of 2021, she assumed the leadership of the DLR Institute of Transport Research as well as a professorship (German academic position: Sonderprofessur) at TU Berlin. She is also co-head of the expert advisory board 'Climate Protection in Mobility' and spokesperson of the cluster 'Transport, Mobility and Logistics' in Berlin-Brandenburg. Meike Jipp assumed her position as the new DLR Divisional Board Member for Energy and Transport on 1 August 2023.
