A view of unusual landscape formations at the 'Australe Scopuli' south polar region of Mars
On 2 April 2024, DLR's HRSC Mars camera imaged the Australe Scopuli region close to the south pole. A variety of astonishing landscape formations can be found here, such as polygonal patterns and light and dark fan-shaped deposits that give the surface a dotted appearance. These are caused by seasonal changes and the associated processes.
