Metop-SGA1 satellite with METimage instrument in the Airbus clean room
This photo shows the satellite in a horizontal position with its instruments on the underside. The solar array will be mounted at the front before the satellite is transported to the launch site for lift-off on 13 August 2025. METimage plays a key role on the Metop-SG (Second Generation) satellites. These satellites will deliver new and improved global weather and climate data by orbiting Earth in a polar orbit. The resulting data is expected to improve weather forecasting in Europe and worldwide up to ten days in advance. The programme is scheduled to run for 24 years, with three identical generations of satellites. METimage, the German contribution to the programme, will be built and integrated for all three satellite generations.
