A.D.A.P.T. (Adaptive Demonstrator for Advanced Propulsion Technologies) is a modular flight test platform for the experimental investigation of hydrogen-electric propulsion technologies and the behaviour of LH₂ systems under real flight conditions. The concept combines a shared, instrumented fuselage with interchangeable energy conversion systems (a PEM fuel cell and an LH₂ turbo-generator), as well as different wing configurations (high-aspect-ratio, HAR, and DEP), allowing propulsion and aero-propulsive effects to be isolated and investigated in a targeted way. Particularly noteworthy are the realistic assumptions, for example regarding aviation-grade battery technology, as well as the comprehensive consideration of design, mission, ground operations and safety. Thanks to its broad consideration of relevant boundary conditions and its modular architecture, A.D.A.P.T. is designed as a reusable research platform intended to bridge the gap between ground testing and future hydrogen-electric airliners.
