ATLAS (Adaptive Testbed for Liquid-hydrogen Aviation Systems) is a modular, CS-23-certifiable technology demonstrator with a fixed Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) architecture and an interchangeable energy source, enabling a direct comparison between liquid-hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries under identical aerodynamic and propulsion conditions. The concept is also notable for its generous payload area, a well-developed loading and unloading concept, a rail-guided module mounting system with standardised interfaces and good accessibility for test equipment. This is complemented by a detailed electrical system architecture and a safety assessment that is comparatively extensive for a preliminary design, including a Functional Hazard Assessment/Fault Tree Analysis (FHA/FTA), redundant power supply and failure mode analyses.
