HYDRA-STOL 2050 is a modular hydrogen-electric technology demonstrator in the CS-23 category, serving as a flexible research platform for sustainable aviation technologies. It is characterised by the combination of DEP, a morphing wing, fly-by-wire and digital twin technology, together with a modular propulsion bay that allows an LH₂ fuel cell drive to be compared with a compressed gaseous hydrogen (cGH₂) hybrid drive combining a fuel cell and a turbo-generator. The focus is on investigating the interplay between propulsion and aerodynamics, as well as its influence on efficiency and flight behaviour, particularly during low-speed flight and STOL operations.
