HYDROLIFT is an innovative hydrogen-electric technology demonstrator that combines a lifting body with integrated LH₂ storage and a distributed blown-wing propeller configuration to enable short take-off and landing (STOL) operations. At the heart of the concept is the modular integration of two rapidly interchangeable propulsion architectures – a fuel cell and a turbo-electric hydrogen drive – via a shared 800-volt direct current (DC) infrastructure, with the propulsion system able to be swapped within just 35 minutes. The concept is complemented by three modular test stations for different research technologies. Particularly noteworthy are the clearly defined research question, the convincing integration of the propulsion system and airframe structure, and the comprehensive consideration of technology readiness level, safety, certification and research infrastructure.
