D328 engineering simulator (ESIM2)
As a flying testbed, the D328® UpLift research aircraft is a key member of the DLR fleet for developing the climate-compatible aviation technologies of tomorrow. To support this research, the Air Vehicle Simulator (AVES) centre has been expanded with a realistic D328 simulator. It enables precise preparation of test pilots for flight trials and also serves as a research platform for further developments in the regional aircraft sector. The ESIM2 engineering simulator is based on a retired Dornier 328 that was converted into a simulation cockpit in collaboration with aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft. It was commissioned at DLR's Braunschweig site in May 2025.
