Ka-band satellite ground station

The Ka-band satellite ground station at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen serves as a gateway antenna for the reception of Technology Demonstration Payload 1 (TDP-1) telemetry from the geostationary satellite Alphasat.

The facility was commissioned in late 2012 and has since been operated by the International Ground Segment Department at the Oberpfaffenhofen site. The system was created as a result of intensive collaboration with the Europäischen Weltraumagentur ESA (ESA), Tesat-Spacecom and the Space Administration. The design aimed to ensure the flexible application of the facility, allowing versatile experiments and validation activities. The on-site Alphasat-TDP-1 satellite simulator allows the facility to be used without the involvement of the space segment.
