The Institute of Flight Guidance holds a leading position worldwide in the research, development and testing of innovative assistance systems for air traffic controllers. Topics such as fully automated and environment friendly management of air traffic in the future are of key importance. We face these challenges together with our national and international partners from Europe, Japan, China and the USA such as NASA. Together we develop solutions by using the latest technologies from "A" for augmented reality, through artificial intelligence, machine learning to "V" for virtualization, with innovative approaches to the design of assistance and automation systems.

As part of our young, interdisciplinary team, you will implement such systems from conception through design to implementation of software prototypes and validate them in complex simulation environments. Modern software frameworks and technologies as well as methods and algorithms from the field of artificial intelligence are used.

In summary, your tasks would include the following activities:

  • research on existing approaches to environmentally sustainable air transport, considering safety and efficiency aspects.
  • strategy development and design of novel air traffic controller assistance systems.
  • coordination and development of the designed systems
  • evaluation of the developed air traffic controller assistance systems with the help of simulation scenarios in the Air Traffic Validation Centre
  • independent publication and documentation of the work carried out and presentation of this work in an international context
  • acquisition and independent management of research projects, especially in the EU
  • supervision of doctoral candidates and students within the framework of research projects

Your qualifications:

  • completed scientific university studies in the field of engineering or natural sciences (master's degree/diploma).
  • in-depth knowledge in the field of flight guidance/air traffic control
  • many years of professional experience in project management of international projects
  • many years of professional experience in the presentation of research results
  • coordination and negotiation skills
  • profound knowledge and many years of experience in software development
  • good written and spoken English skills
