AUDIO aims to improve the safety and efficiency of flights by increasing the flight crew’s situational awareness while the aircraft is taxiing.
Innovative solutions developed in the SESAR Joint Undertaking are being readied for deploymentat European airports. AUDIO proposes to go beyond already trialled, ground-based solutions and involve airlines as the central partner for an integrated approach to modernizingairport traffic management.
The AUDIO Approach
The aim is simple: to provide on-board crews with additional routing information and visualisationof surrounding traffic currently available to controllers only.
How it Works
Lufthansa aircraft are already equipped with an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) moving mapapplication for day-to-day operations. An advanced version of this application will be integratedinto aircraft of the Lufthansa fleet.
Planned taxi route and time are calculated by the Advanced-Surface Movement Guidanceand Control Systems (A-SMGCS) routing function and the surrounding traffic is detected byairport surveillance infrastructure (radar or ADS-B sensors).
AUDIO will demonstrate the added value of providingthe data to flight crews and assess the main technical andoperational factors to prepare deployment.
