On 1 May 2010, the Falcon took off at 13:00 hours CEST for another measurement flight over Iceland and the volcanic plume. Despite light cloud cover, measuring conditions were almost perfect. The measurement flight route took the Falcon directly past the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. At a distance of close to 200 kilometres from the volcano, the Falcon flew through the cloud of volcanic ash at an altitude of six kilometres.
